On Saturday, June 12, The 567 Center for Renewal will host the Great Art Hunt, a scavenger hunt of public art in downtown Macon. The event will provide hours of creative entertainment as teams of all ages follow the clues, explore downtown, and try to find every sculpture and mural on the map.
Teams can walk, bike, or drive to find Macon’s public art treasures. Teams who complete the hunt (and prove it with photos) will be entered into a drawing to win the grand prize: a week at St. George Island. Other mini-prizes can be found along the way, though. Three of the stops will have small art pieces that participants can choose from.
In addition to being a lot of fun, the event also raises funds and awareness for The 567 Center and its mission to bring creative life to downtown Macon. In addition to an art gallery, classes, and pottery studio, The 567 has also helped bring some of this public art to downtown.
This will actually be the second year for the Great Art Hunt. The event started last year when The 567 Center, like many organizations, needed a fundraising event that would still be safe for attendees during the pandemic. The first event was so popular that it has become an annual event. This year’s event will feature a mix of new public art pieces that were installed downtown in the past year alongside some of the stops in last year’s hunt.
Registration costs $55-100 per team and includes a t-shirt, a tote bag, and art mini-prizes for each participant. Tickets may be purchased online at https://www.the567center.org/great-art-hunt or by calling 478-238-6051.
