Winter 2021 Featured Artist: Micah Goguen
Micah Goguen grew up in Central Georgia and obtained his Bachelors in Art and Art History and his Masters in Art Therapy from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Residing currently in Macon, Ga., Micah focuses primarily on bringing art to the community and using art as a form of communication for those struggling to understand and cope with life situations. Goguen is a Certified GOLDEN Working Artist, SilverBrush Educator and an Ampersand Artist Ambassador.
Goguen produces work while teaching art to both adults and children. He also volunteers time at the local community center and works with adults in alcohol and substance recovery as well as uprooted and traumatized children. Goguen leads workshops in the Southeast United States. Using mural work, art for entertainment and art therapy for healing, Goguen collaborates with school systems, local shops, and non-profits to help unify and most importantly “spread a message”.
Micah’s own artwork conveys his interest in people as he uses a variety of media to create expressive portraits. Bold color choices and organic movement signify his style and you can most often expect a large confrontational composition that forces the viewer to take notice and interact. Micah works in a range of media and teaches workshops in Oil and Acrylic Painting, Ceramics, Textiles and Drawing. He is working on several mural projects and also founded a group of artists which hang and display art in privately owned local businesses. Goguen teaches students atelier style in weekly classes in the Middle Georgia Area. The overall vision is to focus and rededicate back to a buy local, shop local mentality that strengthens community through unity and purpose.
From the Artist
This is a pre-release of my spirit animal series that will launch this winter. These 5 original works on paper are acrylic mixed media on 140lb coated watercolor paper. The color scheme and fox are representational of the season change and each work includes a print out about Fox.
If Fox shows up, it means:
Trust your intuition, and be wary of someone you’re involved with who’s attempting to trick you in some way.
Your intelligence and ingenuity are more useful right now than confrontation and righteousness.
It’s better for you to remain in the background and exert influence from that position than to take an active leadership role.
It’s best to blend into your surroundings, move with stealth, and keep your intentions to yourself.
It’s important at this time to break out of your social conditioning and express yourself more freely.
Listen and hear, look and see, sense and feel-trust your senses to guide you.
Red Fox: It’s important to be flexible and adaptable, using the resources you have immediately available.
Missed out on the Fall Box? We have a few left packed with a handmade mug, locally roasted coffee, a beautiful canvas tote, and a small, colorful abstract painting to brighten your home.
